Khajuraho, situated in the state of Madhya Pradesh, is frequented for its beautiful temples and erotic sculptures. Its largest group of medieval Hindu temples and the sound & light shows in the evening are the best part here.
Built according to the typical Hindu architectural pattern, the main temple complex consists of an entrance porch (ardhamandap), a vestibule (antarala) and a sanctum sanctorum (garbhagriha). The temples are divided into three groups:
The Western Group (the largest, compact and centrally located; includes some of the most prominent monuments)
The Eastern Group (comprising five detached sub-groups in and around the present village of Khajuraho), and
The Southern Group (about a kilometre south of the Khajuraho village).

It is believed that initially there were around 85 temples, out of which stand only 22 retaining their age old glory. The temples are decorated beautifully during the prestigious 7-day Khajuraho Dance Festival. The best time to visit the temples is after the monsoon when the dust is subsided and the beauty of the temples is increased two folds after getting cleaned by the rain.
